Medical Skin Cleanup @ InUrSkn

Get the basics right

What is
Medical Skin Cleanup

The process of getting rid of any whiteheads, blackheads and comedones along with removal of deep embedded dirt, grime and sebum is called a skin clean-up. This procedure is done with instruments designed to pick on your skin and exfoliate your skin, and hence it is best done in the sterilized environment of skin clinic and not a spa or salon to prevent any infections.

A skin cleanup is for everyone. Because of ageing, environmental factors and our lifestyle choices our skin is constantly stressed and also gathers dirt, grime and sebum which block pores and leads to formation of whiteheads, blackheads and comedones. A medical clean-up clears up these from your skin and avoids any possibility of an acne flare up or any other skin complication.

If you have skin prone to acne, it is recommended to undergo a cleanup as frequently as once a month.

Know More About
Medical Skin Cleanup

A medical skin clean-up procedure is a very basic procedure that can take upto a total of about 30 minutes. It consists of the below 6 steps:

1. Initial cleansing with a mild cleansing and moisturizing lotion.

2. Heating up the surface of the skin to open up the pores, either with a RF heating probe or steam.

3. Extraction process with medical grade sterilized instruments

4. Application of antibiotic cream to avoid any possible infections.

5. Use of soothing, hydrating mask.

6. Application of moisturizing serum or cream along with a sunscreen to provide protection to the skin.

The great thing about this procedure is that there is no down time and one can go back to routine activities immediately. However similar to any skin procedure, it is advisable to take a few precautions like:

Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 days.

Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen.

Use a moisturiser.

Use a mild face wash.

Do not scrub or rub your skin.

Do not apply makeup for 24 hours.

Do not undergo any salon or spa procedure for upto 72 hours.

Do not wax, thread or bleach for 7 to 10 days

As a part of completing the cleansing and exfoliation process, Dr. Sejal may also recommend a combination of a mild peel with the medical clean-up so that it also disposes of dead cells and helps in rejuvenation of the skin.

The trouble with clean-ups at salons is hygiene and safety standards.

As the clean-ups tend to aggravate and break the skin, it is best done in the sterile environment of a clinic. At InUrSkn every treatment room is treated with UV light and disinfectants before any procedure. Also every instrument used for treatment is either a single use sterilized instrument or sterilized at high pressure with steam.

Also the aestheticians at InUrSkn are trained by Dr. Sejal to cause the least amount of discomfort to the skin. One more factor to consider a skin clinic over a salon is the fact that a trained dermatologist is always available to handle any eventuality.

While, the process is very simple, it can cause localized redness and mild swelling in areas where a lot of whiteheads, blackheads etc. have been removed. Such a redness and swelling automatically subsides in the next 2 to 3 hours.

After the procedure the skin looks clear and evenly toned. Also as the clean-up reduces the possibility of acne flare ups because of build-up of sebum, dirt, grime and sweat.

Oxygen Facial

An Oxygen facial (also called CO2 facial) works towards improving the metabolism of skin cells and increasing the collagen levels in your skin by a phenomenon called Bohr’s effect. This is the phenomenon in which by generating CO2 on the outer layer of skin, there is an increase in the O2 levels in the deeper layers of the skin. The increase in oxygen improves cell growth and cell biosynthesis leading to a better, younger looking skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are practically no side effects of this treatment. There may be a mild redness or tenderness in the treated area which will automatically subside in 48 hours.

Unfortunately the results of a skin cleanup are not permanent. Your body continuously sheds dead skin cells and also produces sebum (oil). These combined with dirt and sweat lead to blocking of pores which leads to formation of whiteheads, blackheads etc.

The best way to prolong the need for a medical face clean-up is to have a good at home skin care regimen which cleanses and mildly exfoliates your skin on a daily, weekly level.

This is an absolute myth. There is no degradation in the condition of your skin in case one stops any skin rejuvenation treatment.

While most people would need to repeat a medical face clean-up only once in every three months, people suffering from acne may need to undergo the procedure every month to stave off any possible acne breakouts.

There is no down time associated with this procedure You can return to work and regular activities immediately after the procedure. However it is recommended to not have direct sun exposure and any other beauty treatments for upto 48 hours.

Absolutely not. The only thing is that your skin will be much cleaner and as a result the possibility of any acne breakouts or infections is drastically reduced.

Yes, medical skin cleanup can help improve uneven skin tone by removing dead skin cells and impurities, leading to a more even and radiant complexion.

Medical skin cleanup is generally suitable for most skin types. However, individuals with sensitive skin or certain skin conditions should consult with a dermatologist beforehand.

The frequency depends on your skin type and condition. Generally, it’s recommended every 2-3 months, but those with acne-prone skin might benefit from monthly sessions.

Post-treatment, it’s advisable to use gentle, non-comedogenic skincare products. Your dermatologist may recommend specific products tailored to your skin’s needs.

While it can help in overall skin texture improvement, medical skin cleanup is not primarily aimed at scar reduction. Other treatments might be more effective for scars.

Medical skin cleanup can help in preventing and reducing acne by unclogging pores and removing excess oil, but it’s not a standalone treatment for severe acne.

The procedure is generally not painful, but some discomfort may be felt during the extraction process, especially in sensitive areas.

Some immediate improvements might be noticeable, but the full benefits are often seen a few days after the treatment as the skin heals and rejuvenates.

While it can help in removing superficial layers of damaged skin, it’s not a treatment specifically for sun damage. Additional treatments like laser therapy might be required for sun-damaged skin.

To maximize results, maintain a healthy skincare routine, stay hydrated, avoid excessive sun exposure, and follow a balanced diet.
