Excess & Unwanted Hair Growth

Excess growth of hair in women in a male pattern is called hirsutism. This condition is caused by imbalance in androgen hormones.

Face is the most commonly affected area; especially upper lips, chin and side locks.

Other areas like upper neck, back and abdomen are also sometimes affected.

The most common cause for this condition is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) - This syndrome presents in the form of irregular periods, acne, hirsutism, obesity and alopecia (hair fall).

Other causes can include:
- Oral steroid use
- Puberty
- Pregnancy
- Family history
- Certain medications.

In men although excess hair growth is generally not an indicator of any underlying condition, it sometimes causes a reduced aesthetic appearance, This deterioration in cosmetic appearance often leads to a lower self-esteem and lack of confidence in young patients.

Treatment

It is extremely important to identify the underlying cause and treat the same.

Aesthetic improvements can be achieved by:

- Removal of Hair with Laser

- Bleaching of fine Hair with Laser
